Don't reward yourself with food...You are not a dog!

Do you reward yourself with food? I know that when I go to celebrate, I want that big glass of wine and some kind of huge sweet dessert. What's your biggest reward food choice? Comment below and let me know.

So, no one is perfect and it's ok to have a small reward now and then. BUT, sometimes we let it get out of hand and start rewarding ourselves for every little thing that goes right as an excuse to eat those things we know we shouldn't. If you find yourself rewarding yourself with food, try some of these rewards instead:

1. Plan a Trip
Whether it's a weekend getaway or a 10 day trip to the carribean, it will give you something to look forward to. While it may seem like delayed gratification, think about how sweet that reward will be. Can't afford a trip for every thing you want to reward? What about contributing towards you trip? It could be $10, $50 or $100 but rather than spending the money on that food you know you shouldn't eat, put it towards you vacation. Soon, you'll have enough to take that trip!

2. Schedule an exercise date with a friend
Sure you want to celebrate with friends but that normally means dinner and drinks. How about a healthy sweat session instead? You'll still be able to catch up with your friend and talk all about your recent good news and you'll burn some calories while you're at it.

3. Treat Yourself
....but not with food. Schedule a massage, mani/pedi, or facial. Spa days not your thing? Get tickets to a concert or sporting event. Neither in your price range? Have a nice bubble bath with scented candles.

4. Have a shopping spree
Your shopping spree should be directly proportional to the size of your success. It could be as simple as a new pair of earrings, an accessory or a new phone case. If your reason for celebration warrants a larger reward, think about that electronic gadget, that kitchen accessory, or new outfit you've had your eye on.

5. Give yourself some "me" time
Turn off your phone and email and veg out to some netflix or a good book.

As I said at the beginning, rewarding yourself with food doesn't have to be a bad thing. Food is a necessary part of life so treating ourselves once in a while is A-OK. These are some alternatives so you can avoid the continued celebration over-indulgences and stay on track with your health and fitness goals.
