I was thinking today about how far I've come since February. Wow - what a difference mentally and physically. I know you can't see the inside changes. The confidence, passion and energy. I can only hope that a portion of it comes through in my posts. In February, I was making every excuse as to why I couldn't work out. Too busy at work. When I got home, I had to cook dinner, do more work, go to bed and repeat...or there were plans that prevented me from coming home and then, no time to work out. Eating right? Oh well, that took too much effort AND I really like carbs. And beer. And wine. And dessert. My state was, "maybe I should just get used to the middle aged spread. It's inevitable right?".
I almost fell into that trap and the lies that society tells us. BUT then I decided that I didn't have to follow the trend of complacency. Look around, not all women over 40 are carrying around an extra 20 lbs, feeling insecure, afraid and tired all the time. What's the difference? Purpose and passion!
I wanted to feel better, get healthier and be able to rock any outfit I chose. But, knowing myself, I know I'm not great at holding myself accountable. I do have integrity so I can't hold others accountable to things I don't do myself. The best way I could hold myself accountable was to make my journey public and become a Coach. Believe me, that's the best accountability there is!
It forced me to get serious about my commitment. To make the time, not find the time. I started getting up earlier. Sounds hard but it really hasn't been. I have truly found my passion so the work I put into my coaching business is fun for me. It doesn't feel like work at all. So, while you can't see the changes on the inside, trust me they are there. So many small, mental victories that have kept me on track so you can see the physical results.
The picture below show where I started and where I was in August after finishing The Master's Hammer & Chisel. I've been able to maintain that since. How, you ask? Consistency and balance. I commit to a program and I see it through to the end. I've done 21 Day Fix, 22 Minute Hard Corps, the 3-Day Refresh, The Masters' Hammer & Chisel and I'm currently on week 3 of P90X3. These programs have been proven to get results, if you stick to the plan. The plan has absolutely worked for me more than I could ever have imagined.
When I started, I wanted to lose 5 lbs just to fit back into my clothes. Then I decided another 5 would be good and I wanted some muscle definition. I hit that goal and continued to lose weight because I was eating better, drinking my shakes every day and doing my 30 minutes of working out each day. CONSISTENCY IS KEY!
I have now lost over 10 lbs from when I started and I've gained muscle definition I've never had. I don't deprive myself. It's all about balance so I still get eat carbs. drink beer, drink wine. eat dessert. Just in moderation. Life's about balance. We only get one so we do need to enjoy it but we also need to take care of our bodies, it's the only one we get!
